Police Station interview and video tapes can of course be transcribed by in house staff. However if that is the case the costs are not recoverable as they are considered to be part and parcel of the running costs of the office. It should also be borne in mind that staff taken away to complete non-receoverbale transcripts are taken away from more important tasks of the day to day running of the office.
You may recall that any client that has the benefit of a Representation Order can apply for Prior Authority for the costs of the transcript. For the more financially motivated firms you can of course charge for the preparation of the CDS 4 (application for prior authoirity in criminal cases), considering the granting of the prior authority, consideration of the completed transcripts with the tapes and/or prosecution transcripts and all letters.

In our experience Prior Authority is rarely turned down for transcripts.
